In its essence, the Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. The bottom line is here: Think positive and positive things will happen, think negative thoughts and unpleasant events might follow. It also encourages you to think BIG – because the Universe is a steam pot of abundance. Your dreamhouse, your partner in shine and crime and that million dollar cheque is already yours – it’s simply a matter of fine tuning your vibration. Everything is in a state of vibration, since everything is energy – welcome to the Quantum world! The only thing required is your cooperation in form of sending out some good vibes.
The mind is the tool for correspondence through your thought waves. What you think you become – already Buddha taught this in the Dhammapada so the Law of Attraction is actually nothing new.
“Experiences are preceded by the mind, led by the mind, and produced by the mind. If one speaks or acts with an impure mind, suffering follows(…) if one speaks or acts with a pure mind, happiness follows like a shadow that never departs.”
And of course, psychology has its share on the Law of Attraction, too. In its essence, it is the spiritual hipster version of the confirmation bias. It is a very unromantic psychological concept supporting the idea of the mind´s habit to interpret and experience life in the way that matches pre-existing thoughts and beliefs. The mind does do so for the simple biological reason of survival. Filtering the influx of information it is exposed to, it makes pretty much sense to focus first on the things relevant to us to keep us alive – may that be for the sake of physical survival or mentally to find our way through this confusing world.
However, we start at one point to want more – because there is pretty much more out there! Once we set our focus on to something that we really like to have in our lives, we automatically start to pay more attention to the details associated with it. This is quite cool as you can actually choose to focus more on the things that are matching your goal of reshaping your reality.
With our consciousness expanding more and more, the Law of Attraction has become a powerful reality for many of us. We live in a day and age where we are taking the responsibility for the course of our lives. And the self-help industry surely never gets tired of providing us with more inspiration. Yet there used to be a big question mark (at least for me) for quite a long time, as I couldn´t help but wonder: How can this possibly work? Is it really so easy to just think positively and everything that I desire will come to pass for sure?
As a natural-born pessimist (and shit manifester for a long time), it used to be my nature to question everything. And there is nothing bad about it, since healing your mind requires to check if information is useful for you or not. Well, I considered it to be useful as I was sick and tired of the way I experienced life. If you can end suffering, then just please do so. However, there were a few things I couldn´t really agree with it. Where there is light, there is also dark – that´s the way the cookie crumbles and it doesn´t make an exclusion for the Law of Attraction Luckily, if you check Mark Manson´s article now now I do not need to write an epiphany here about the not so hot stuff around it.
Had a good read? The salient point for me is the difference between delusional positivity and healing your mind. And creating a positive mindset goes hand in hand with healing your emotions. Remember your emotions drive all your choices in life? So if thinking positive about something and opening up to a different possibilities do freak you out you, there is a reason for it. Often in the famous way of emotional blocks that stem from past experiences or simply fear. And there is no use in suppressing your thoughts and emotions since these little bastards will pop up another day in a another way. Fake it until you make might be a good advice, but keep on listening closely to what your inner world is presenting to you. Ultimately, we are striving to create a responsible society and New Age and not one that continues the devastating practice of suppressing emotions just the other way around.
I personally think that books like “The Secret” are fancy doorknob you turn to enter this gigantic space of self healing. But by all means , use the key of mindfulness. Behind some doors waits a mess to be sorted out first. Often, our desires and wishes for change in our lives are motivating us to lift the carpet and check what is underneath it. Every wish and want is motivated by a deep underlying need – from our intrinsic human needs and even from deep wounds that are asking for some attention. And it’s totally worth discovering it for the sake of true abundance. So embrace your thoughts and the way you feel just as they are and use them as your tool for transformation. And this is anything but delusional. For me, this is the secret behind it all.
But yay, how to? To be continued…
